How to Manage Your Apps and Free Up Space?

Divine wisdom - Smartphone optimization

Caches are files used by applications to help them run faster, and clearing these regularly can free up valuable space on your hard drive.

iOS and Android make it simple to see what’s taking up space on your phone’s storage. Here’s how you can use the tools provided, plus tips for clearing caches and uninstalling unnecessary applications.

Delete Unused Apps

One of the easiest ways to free up space on your phone is to delete apps you no longer use. It can be all too easy to amass an abundance of applications for stores you no longer visit, games you no longer enjoy playing and services you no longer require; but both iOS and Android make it simple for users to identify these unwanted applications without fear of losing data or pictures that were backed up beforehand.

On iOS, tapping Settings > General and then Storage & iCloud Usage allows you to view an overview of which applications are taking up space on your phone and cloud storage accounts. App usage information provides both actual app size as well as download data estimates to help determine what might need deleting; in addition, cached and deleted files of individual apps can also be cleared out to free up even more space if required.

Android allows you to access all of your applications at once on one screen and quickly delete them with one touch. Or if there are some that no longer serve your purpose, “offloading” them can remove their data from your phone but still keep them accessible through cloud storage so you can redownload them if need be.

Clear Cache

Cache should be cleared on a regular basis to free up space or improve device performance, particularly if space is at a premium or your device is running slower than usual. Cache storage stores information that is automatically saved onto your phone or tablet and over time it can become excessive – taking up too much data usage while possibly leading to unexpected behaviors from apps or even crashes!

Clearing app cache is an effortless task that only takes minutes to accomplish. Simply open the Settings app, select General and iPhone Storage from within it, and scroll down until you find a button labeled “Clear storage.” When you press this, your device will immediately begin purging old cache data for every app on your system.

Once your cache has been cleared, apps should begin functioning more smoothly than before. Therefore, it’s advisable to clear it on all apps on your system, even those you use rarely; simply be sure to back up any media files before taking this step – for easier backup and restore services that support both iOS and Android devices this may help make this task simpler.

Uninstall Unnecessary Apps

When running out of storage on your tablet (or receiving that all-too-common “iPad Storage Full” alert), it might be wise to evaluate which apps no longer serve you and uninstall those you no longer require – being mindful to do this properly in order to preserve functionality or data loss.

Checking permissions of apps you don’t use anymore is essential to protecting yourself and securing sensitive data that might include logins or settings needed by other applications. If an app can’t make a convincing case why they require certain permissions, then deny them altogether.

As another step to cleaning up your phone, look out for apps that take up space without providing any value to the user. Often these are unnecessary apps installed by phone manufacturers or carriers, such as bloatware. While bloatware might not do any real harm to the system or user’s privacy, they still take up resources which are needed elsewhere and may become annoying or security risks over time.

If you encounter one, uninstalling it through the Settings app should usually suffice. From that same screen you can also access its details page with information regarding features, permissions and more for that specific app. Furthermore, disabling will stop it running in the background wasting resources; though it won’t stop its content such as news stories or podcasts from loading when opened again.

Clear Data

Finding duplicate, outdated, or unnecessary files and removing them is the key to freeing up disk space. Similar to clearing out junk mail from your inbox, doing this makes more room on your hard drive while helping speed up your computer. There are various apps and programs to assist with this task, but one I highly recommend using is KeepClean as an all-in-one solution that will help clean out junk files, device caches, and identify apps you no longer use that take up storage.

No matter the source of its installation, either preinstalled software or programs you installed and forgotten about are likely taking up space on your desktop computer. One way of freeing up space from these is to review a list of running processes and delete those you no longer require from it.

If your Android device has been updated to Oreo, its default Storage settings include an easy “Free up space” button that gives a quick rundown of all space-hogging files such as downloaded music, photos, and videos that haven’t been uploaded to cloud storage services. Oreo can even help by automatically eliminating some of these large space hogs itself! Alternatively, Smart Storage lets Oreo delete most inconvenient ones automatically for you.
